As you may know, British Gas has taken on all Tomato Energy customers as the Supplier of Last Resort (SOLR). Those customers have now been moved onto a deemed tariff, which is typically more expensive. Because of this, it’s important for customers to secure a fixed contract as soon as possible to benefit from more competitive rates — whether with British Gas or another supplier. We’re here to make that process easy.
To support businesses affected by Tomato’s closure, British Gas Lite have launched a new tariff, specifically for non–half-hourly customers (Profile Class 01–04) who have been transferred from Tomato Energy. Don’t worry — our system automatically identifies these meters and will only offer this tariff where eligible.
Tariff Highlights
- No standing charge — customers only pay for the energy they use
- £100 customer credit applied to the bill within one month of contract start
- Flexible start dates — no restrictions, and we’ll reapply if an objection occurs
- No credit checks — automatically waived for customers transferring from Tomato
- 1-, 2-, and 3-year contract options
- Commission paid at standard Tickd rates: https://www.tickd.co.uk/howwemakeourmoney/
How It Works in the Tickd System
We’ve designed the process so that you don’t need to do any extra work:
- If the meter is identified as previously supplied by Tomato, the Tomato-specific tariff will automatically appear.
- Our system will always display the cheapest British Gas Lite tariff. If the standard British Gas Lite tariff is cheaper than the Tomato-specific option, the standard tariff will be shown instead.
- The Tomato-specific tariff will be clearly marked with a banner that includes the £100 credit and a Tomato emoji for easy identification.
- Sites with an EAC below 4,000 kWh will not receive this tariff; the standard British Gas Lite tariff will be offered instead.
- The £100 credit has been blended into the contract cost to ensure fair comparisons with other suppliers:
- £100 reduction for 1-year contracts
- £50/year reduction for 2-year contracts
- £33/year reduction for 3-year contracts
All you need to do is request quotes with ASAP start dates. Once contracts are signed, we’ll take care of everything else.
We’ve tried to anticipate some questions
Can customers switch to other suppliers?
Absolutely. We’ll continue to display all available supplier quotes. This new tariff is simply an additional option.
Could there be objections for ASAP start dates?
Possibly, but we’ll work directly with British Gas and other suppliers to resolve issues and reapply if needed.
Why isn’t the Tomato-specific tariff appearing for a Tomato meter?
Two common reasons:
- The site’s EAC is below 4,000 kWh; or
- The standard British Gas Lite tariff is cheaper for that contract duration.
In all cases, the system will display the best available option.
What about Half-Hourly Tomato meters?
We can definitely support these too. Half-hourly sites require a more bespoke process, so we’ll handle those quotes outside the automated system.
